Huka Banam - single stringed lute carved in the shape of a human figure and played with a bow. A single string (missing) passes across a hide drum section in the belly of the figure, under the jaw and is wrapped around a peg (missing) which held through the sides of the head. The string can be tightened in this manner to produce a particular sound. Handcarved hardwood, hide, wood base. Early 20th Century.
