Hand carved variegated pink sandstone elephants, traditionally used to support the wooden pillars used to enclose the porticos and verandas of Burmese monasteries and other significant public buildings. These are not reproductions but original pieces carved from solid sandstone. We have two, both approximately the same size but slightly different in looks, however they can easily pass as a pair. 80 -100 years old, Shan State, Southeastern Burma
